EdenMUSH is a social roleplaying mush set upon the airborne island of Eden, a continent literally torn apart by a cataclysmic war. Eden is primarily a fantasy realm with an outward appearance that invokes images of a number of different time periods and places of earth history. Such periods include Ancient Greece and Rome, the Middle ages, and the Renaissance, as well early industrial periods such as the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Eden is none of these these periods or places however. Eden is a world within itself, in a time within itself despite the numerous and familiar elements borrowed from innumerable sources, including popular literature, films, television and video games.

With EdenMUSH it is hoped that the players are offered an interesting and exciting roleplaying environment, while still leaving room for expansion and growth based upon the ideas of the player's themselves.

General

The airborne continent of Eden is composed of a group of loosely clustered islands ranging from entire countries hundreds of miles across, to mere boulders no more than a few hundred feet in diameter. Eden was not always this way however; before the events of the Great War and ensuing Cataclysm, Eden was a single vast continent controlled by three powerful nations. To the south, the Kingdom of Elan a feudal society led by its noble Queen. To the north The Empire of Disea a industrious state ruled its mighty Emperor, and finally compromising the regions in-between is The Coalition of Amstra, a collective of free-cities governed by an Elder Council. These three nations now seek to rebuild what was lost during the chaos of the last century.

Currently game and role play are focused around the fortress city of Elan.

Technology

Eden enjoys a surprisingly advanced level of technological ability, despite its outward appearance. While the average citizen still goes about their daily business unassisted by machines or electronics, its not uncommon for them to pause in the city center to view an announcement broadcast across a large television-like display screen or to wait a moment for a passing automobile. The majority of such technology is focused in Eden's capital cities, and utilized primarily by merchants, public officials, the military, and the wealthy. The majority of buildings and homes within these cities have running water, plumbing and electrical lighting. In rural areas however such technologies are uncommon if not completely unheard of and many live as they have for centuries, tilling the earth with the aid of beasts of burden and passing their news by word of mouth or occasionally via means of the printed word.

A special note should be made on the topic of communications. While at one time wired communications spanning the entire continent were not uncommon, the events of the Cataclysm have made electronic communication over a distance greater than a few miles impossible. While initially attributed to damaged communications lines, subsequent repairs and tests have met with continued failure. Experimentation with various wireless technologies has been equally unsuccessful and all have been forced to fall back to utilizing the written word for anything other than local communication.

Magic

Magic in Eden is a strange thing, at times even stranger than its technology. The study of magic is almost unknown, and any actual practitioners of its arts are regarded as mere myth. Despite this however rumors persist of wandering wizards, men and women of such power than their mere presence can change the course of history and destiny. Many strange events of the past have been attributed to magic or the supernatural, though no valid evidence in support of these theories has been supplied.

People

While Eden's population is composed entirely of humans, there is a a fair degree of variation among those from different regions of its islands. These variations include difference in height, build, skin tone, hair and eye color, as well as differences relating to language and culture. Most on Eden speak a common language, though differences in accent or dialect are apparent and in extremely rare instances involving highly isolated peoples an entirely different language has developed.
