Elan, more properly referred to as the Kingdom of Elan is a feudal city-state situated in the south of what was once the continent of Eden.

General
The city of Elan itself is situated on a roughly circular island approximately 100miles in diameter and centered on what was once a landlocked sea known at the Sea of Clouds, a name derived primarily from the periodic and thick fogs that would roll across the relatively shallow body of water. The continent shattering events of the cataclysm have drained the sea of its water however, the seabed falling out from beneath its waters, leaving the city situated on a free-floating island amidst a literal sea of clouds, the irony of which airship crews take great delight in pointing out.
Originally founded as no more than a fortress guarding what was viewed as a strategically important area, Elan soon flourished and expanded into a bustling metropolis and center of trade for the surrounding lands. Owing to both its protective nature over the surrounding countryside and its centralized location it is unsurprising that Elan became the primary city of the area, and home to the region's long line of Royalty.
Perhaps due to it's military history Elan is a city built primarily of heavy stone, with a series of concentric ring walls containing the majority of the city's homes and businesses. Due to the protective nature of its walls and its island location Elan hasn't so much grown outward over the years, but upward. With the average building standing at around six stories and its impressive clock tower standing at least double that. The streets of Elan are broad and smooth, with adequate room for both wagon and foot traffic, the street layout very orderly and geometrical, with the main thoroughfare running north and south through the heart of the city and other streets branching off to the east and west.
History
The southern-most city-state of Eden has long been ruled by a line of Kings and Queens, a royal family that stretches back nearly two centuries. Earliest recorded history indicates the land was at one time ruled by various warlords and power hungry nobles. Out of this time of trouble however a single united kingdom was born, and with it the Elan royal line. It is during the last Great War and the resulting Cataclysm however that Elan's current King was lost, the kingdom falling to the rule of his young sister and the throne left without a legitimate heir or heiress. With no current successor to the throne, the royal line is at risk of failure and there are some within the kingdom's nobility who would like to see this end sooner rather than later.
Geography
The land surrounding the city of Elan is primarily made up of flat or gently rolling terrain, covered largely with grasslands and cultivated fields. It is largely due to this fact that Elan's economic focus for quite some time has been on agriculture, though its isn't without additional natural resources. Supplementing its agricultural production is a thriving logging industry, based primarily around the famed Iron Oaks, trees known not only for their strength as a building material but also for their great size and age.
Technology
Elan's primary technological advances have been a fair bit more mundane than Eden's other city-states. With such a heavy focus on agricultural strength a great number of advances have been made to increase the yearly crop. Elan is perhaps better known for its skilled craftsman, her tanners, smiths and bowyers some of the best to be found anywhere in Eden.
